How to Worship (Step-by-Step)

Step One: Purchase Offerings

Upon entering the temple, purchase the necessary items at the designated offering area, including basic offerings such as incense, flowers, and candles, and optionally a prayer slip with gold foil.

Step Two: Fill in Personal Information

If you have purchased a prayer slip with gold foil, please fill in your personal information at the public writing area using the writing materials provided.

  • Name
  • Date of birth (year, month, day)
  • Birth hour (if known)
Step Three: Enter the Hall for Blessings
  1. Proceed to the hall opposite the Mahavira Hall of Wat Ratchaorasaram, taking three incense sticks and your filled-out prayer slip.
  2. Hold the incense with palms pressed together (like a lotus bud) between your index, middle, and ring fingers, or use your own way. Bow three times before the Buddha, make your wish silently, then place the slip in the designated shelf.
Step Four: Place Offerings

Place the prayer slip and other offerings into the dedicated offering shelf on the far right side of the main hall.

Important Note: All offered items must remain within the temple and should not be taken back home.

Matters Needing Attention
  • Etiquette & Rules: Do not touch Buddha statues or monks. Women should ask male assistance when making offerings. Avoid touching others' heads, pointing with feet, and always use your right hand to pass objects.
  • Quiet Atmosphere: Temples are sacred spaces. Smoking is strictly prohibited, and loud noises are not allowed.
  • Photography Guidelines: Photography of Buddha statues and temple interiors is generally permitted unless otherwise indicated by signs. Always seek permission before photographing monks.
  • Dress Code: Avoid revealing clothing such as short skirts/shorts, sleeveless tops, backless outfits, or ripped jeans. Opt for long pants or knee-length shorts as a sign of respect. Remove shoes before entering and do not step on door thresholds.
Special Rituals:to ward off misfortune caused by Tai Sui
Complete Steps to Resolve Conflicts with Tai Sui
  1. Obtain the Ritual Kit

Go to the front desk of the temple hall to purchase the annual blessing kit (known as the "Tai Sui Talisman Book") and any required offerings. Huang‘en Temple provides special prayer papers designed specifically for this annual fortune-harmonizing ceremony.

  2. Fill Out the Tai Sui Talisman Book

Carefully write your personal details in the talisman book, including your name, gender, Chinese zodiac animal sign, and date of birth. Temple staff will be available to guide you on how to complete it correctly.

  3. Burn Incense and Pray

Place the completed Tai Sui Talisman Book and other offerings beside the incense burner, then proceed to burn incense and pray. While offering the incense, clear your mind of distractions and maintain a reverent heart.

  4. Offer the Talisman Book

After completing the prayers, place the Tai Sui Talisman Book and other items in their designated positions to be collected by the temple monks. The talisman book will be sequentially enshrined before the statue of the Tai Sui Deity (also known as Grand Duke Jupiter), where senior monks will conduct daily sutra chanting to bless it throughout the year.

  5. Chanting and Blessing

The senior monks at the temple will chant scriptures on a regular basis and pray for blessings for an entire year, until the arrival of the next lunar year. During this period, the talisman book will remain consecrated within the temple, benefiting from the sustained blessings of the chants.

Notes:

  • Additional Rituals: You may also choose to participate in complementary rituals during your visit, such as those for attracting auspicious opportunities or enhancing prosperity.
  • Temple Schedule: The temple is open every day of the year. Senior monks conduct daily sutra chanting to bless all worshippers with peace, safety, and protection from misfortunes.
  • Annual Renewal: A new Tai Sui Talisman Book will be required if you wish to perform the ritual again in the following year.
