The Er-ge Feng Temple traces its origins to Zheng Zhiyong (1851–1937), a legendary Thai-Chinese leader from Chaozhou, Guangdong. Known as "Er-ge Feng" due to his senior position in the Hongmen Society, he rose to become the "Gambling King" under King Rama V and built a vast commercial empire spanning East and Southeast Asia. A staunch supporter of Sun Yat-sen's revolution—who honored him with the name "Zhiyong" (Wisdom and Courage)—he also founded the "Hua Xian Daily" to strengthen Sino-Thai cultural ties.
Beyond his business success, Zheng was a noted philanthropist, funding schools, building roads, and organizing disaster relief, including after the 1918 Chaozhou earthquake. His dual legacy as a charismatic leader and generous benefactor led to his gradual deification. Today, his temple is famed for granting luck in gambling and wealth, illustrated by legends such as a policeman saved by his amulet during a shootout. Worshipped as a deity who transforms fortunes and opens paths to prosperity, Er-ge Feng attracts devotees from business, finance, and high-risk professions.
Deity of Speculative Wealth: He built his fortune by monopolizing Siam's gambling tax—a master of high-risk, high-reward ventures and a living symbol of turning opportunity into wealth.
Deity of Safe Passage: He survived repeated turmoil and died peacefully in old age, a testament to his perceived power to protect and ensure smooth journeys through life's dangers.
Deity of Career & Connections: A secret-society leader bound by brotherhood and a pillar of the overseas Chinese community, his life exemplified the power of social networks and righteous influence.
Proceed to the glass house opposite the temple to purchase the necessary offerings. These must include:
Note: Indispensable to the revered Er Ge Feng, cigars and betel nuts were the hallmarks of his unique tastes.
First, face the Heaven Public Incense Burner — the spiritual medium connecting humans and gods — pay respects to it, then insert five incense sticks.
Approach the large incense burner at the temple entrance, insert your incense sticks, and optionally recite the wealth-attracting verses inscribed on the adjacent stone tablet.
Prior to entering the inner hall, halt at the entrance way. Place one incense stick in each of the two censers positioned on both sides, and conduct your obeisance in the specified sequence:
Strike the drum and bell on both sides three times each, signaling to the deities that the worship ceremony is concluded.
Finally, add oil to the incense burner at the entrance, completing the entire worship process.
If your wish comes true, return to fulfill your promise.
